emergency & crisis for markham

York Region Emergency Medical Services provides basic and advanced life support, emergency and non-emergency medical care and transport of the ill and injured.

Approximately 310 paramedics and support staff provide Emergency Medical Service to the Regional Municipality of York through the deployment of up to 24 ambulances, 6 Paramedic Response Vehicles and 2 Supervisor Response Vehicles, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Paramedics staff each vehicle and can assist the sick and injured in their homes or on the streets by providing care for immediate life threatening conditions and safe, rapid transport to an appropriate facility for continuing medical care. York Region EMS offers both Primary and Advanced Care Paramedics services.

Paramedics are certified through the York Region Base Hospital Program, to carry out certain delegated medical acts. Following specialized training, Advanced Care Paramedics can provide additional clinical interventions and skills.

911 is the universal number to access emergency ambulance service from anywhere in York Region.
