Like most, this is the time of year with little – if any – cheer. Credit card companies certainly bring us all back to reality, bursting those warm glow remnants from the holidays with their neatly folded statements in groan-inducing white envelopes marked by their imposing logos. But do not fret just yet...
Certainly those bills are going to get paid, right? In the meantime, there's still lots to do before the kids go back to school! You may not want to entertain the throngs of business aquaintances, friends, neighbours, or extended family members but you can certainly work off that little extra holiday weight you've gained by taking advantage local winter activities.
No matter where you live in our great nation, Canada is rich with opportunities to stay fit during her cold months. Find your local tobogganing hills, outdoor skating rinks, and snow shoeing parks. Even making a snowman or snow fort with the kids in the backyard builds up a good sweat!
And remember to eat well too. Here's one of our older recipes by Laura Buckley to start off your year. Her article explains that depriving yourself of the foods you love not only perpetuates the vicious cycle of binging and dieting, it is also not a way to live. Simple to make, Ms Buckley's Basque Chicken is perfect for any weeknight meal.
Enjoy! Happy New Year! And stay tuned for the addition of new cities on SayItCanada. •
